Artist's Description
Rokuon-ji Temple
It is believed to have been built in 397ac by Yoshimitsu Ashikaga, the Shogun at the time.
The construction cost is estimated at 740,000,000 yen and 20kg of gold is said to be used.
It has burnt up in flames twice over the years but has been restored each time. It is said that the golden parts are even thicker than before.
The bright gold Shari-den, the Rikushu-matsu, the Gomgam-sen spring, the Ganka-sui water that Yoshimitsu Ashikaga is said to have used to wash his hands, the small Ryumon-baku waterfall, the surrounding ponds, Ammin-taku and rocks, and so on give for a scenery fitting of the land of Perfect Bliss and is simply breath-taking.
Its official name is Rokuon-ji Temple but it is far more commonly known as Kinkaku-ji Temple.
Make sure you take home the talisman handed to you at the entrance for it will share with you the good fortune of Yoshimitsu.
